Is there a cure for hepatitis B?

Answer

There are two types of Hepatitis B: Acute and Chronic. In the United States, 95% of patients clear their infection and develop antibodies against Hepatitis B virus. 5% of patients do not clear the infection and develop chronic infection; only these people are at risk of long term complications of Hepatitis B. However, for individuals with chronic hepatitis B, interferon therapy may help. In addition, in late 1998, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the use of lamivudine, an oral antiviral drug, for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B infection. Sometimes, liver transplantation is necessary for severe cases. Please check the sources below for more important information and as always please refer to your doctor.
