What are veneers?

Answer

veneers are porcelean (sp?) caps that are put on the teeth. each tooth is ground down (the same as when a crown is placed) and the veneer is cemented on top. The difference between crowns and veneers is that crowns are placed for functionality (to repair a diseased tooth and give a working chewing surface) whereas veneers are merely cosmetic. Also, veneers replace ALL teeth in the mouth, whereas crowns are usually placed one at a time as needed. The purpose of the veneer is to give an entirely new shape to each tooth, thereby making a new mouth. It's like getting dentures without having all your teeth pulled. And yes, people do get this done (mostly celebrities, it's expensive) to either fix their crooked teeth or whiten the teeth or both. Hope this helped!
